Clock Chime

A pi2B runs a cron job to fire a php script on the hour and half hour. The pi audio output connects by wire to a dedicated powered Sony speaker in the living room.

During waking hours the script will play out prerecorded audio clips as clock chimes based on the time of day and day of the year. Some randomization is used to mix up the playout from day to day.

Prerecorded audio clips are mostly recordings of the grandkids around the ages of 2 to 3 when they are first able to say eight o’clock, for example. Or happy birthday grandma, etc. Other clips include a recording of the actual grandfather clock chime.

It’s not a demanding load on the pi, so also running on the pi is pi-hole, to provide network wide ad blocking for the house.
